Couple pours themselves into new business

With spring having just arrived and summer not too far off, many residents are looking forward to being able to spend time outdoors.

Part of that outdoor experience is being able to enjoy backyard barbecues and time in the evening taking in the occasional Delta breeze. But for many residents in newer developments, an unfinished backyard might hinder the experience.

P&S Lasting Impressions is a company that might just be what you are looking for as you look ahead to lovely summer nights.

Whether it is a concrete patio you or maybe just an additional slab to the side yard, this local Plumas Lake contracting company might be the answer. They are right here in the neighborhood and offer a variety of services.

“We are a full-service concrete contractor providing quality service to residential and commercial clients,” said Shelly Kukulka, owner of P&S along with her husband, Paul.

The company specializes in decorative concrete design implementations including countertops, commercial overlays and acid stain, barbeques, waterfalls, patios, driveways and retaining walls. The family-run company has been in business since January 2004 and moved their services to Plumas Lake in July 2007. They offer a variety of services and the costs depending on the customer’s tastes and needs.

The Kukulkas were inspired to start their business when they had seen too many contractors not following through on their work, not having enough experience and feeling there was a need to provide pride in their workmanship in order to fulfill their neighbors' expectations. So after working for 20 years in a contracting union, Paul decided to put his creative skills into action making concrete into an affordable art that anyone can enjoy.

But it wasn’t easy, as the Kukulkas admit they had to put “gallons of sweat, truck loads of money, thousands of hours of preparation and a whole lot of cell phone minutes” to use in order to make their investment pay off.

While the biggest challenge the Kukulkas have faced is getting the business off the ground and getting their name known, they have found great success in the customers they have received who have  turned around and promoted them via word of mouth.

With their motto “Where the Honest Contractor is Not Extinct” P&S is moving forward and hoping the future will be bright and creative as they continue working their craft locally.

“We would like to be known to our neighbors for the creative quality we provide with reasonable prices,” said Kukulka.

P&S Lasting Impressions hopes to continue to grow and reaching out to residents.

“We do our best to rise above the ordinary to deliver five-star results in every aspect of the services we provide for our customers,” Kukulka said.
