School board seeks to fill vacancy

The Plumas Lake Elementary School District is seeking interested candidates to fill a vacancy on its board to fill the vacancy left when Charles Mackay stepped down last month.

The board, which will have three seats facing election in November, is looking for residents who are interested in serving on the school board from May until December.  Normally this process would take place via an election, but due to the unexpected vacancy the board has the right to appoint a replacement until the next election takes place.

The Board will be looking at all candidates during a special meeting on May 13. Each candidate is asked to fill out an application as well as be prepared to answer questions in front of the board during the public portion of the meeting. The board will then choose a candidate that evening and make the formal appointment.

All applications are due to the district office no later than noon on April 30. The pool will be reviewed by a board sub-committee to ensure all applicants are eligible.

Residents interested in applying for an appointment should visit the PLESD website for a link to the application. Interested individuals need to be registered voters in the district’s boundaries in order to qualify for an appointment.
