Cobblestone falls into fun

More than 100 people showed up on Saturday evening to play the many games, eat dinner and participate in a raffle and silent auction at Cobblestone Elementary's harvest festival.

“We felt like this was a great turnout,” said Cobblestone Principal Kirsten Spallino. “The students and their costumes were fantastic and it looked like everyone had a great time.”

This year the school offered dinner, nachos and other goodies for folks wanting to be able to eat and be near to the fun and games being offered.

Each class grade put together a themed basket that was included in the silent auction, included baskets going for nearly $400 dollars that included roundtrip tickets on Southwest. Game options covered the playground for kids to participate in including the traditional cake walk, bowling, a duck drop and pie toss.

The harvest festival is a critical fundraiser for the school with the PTO donating all its profits to the school’s student body. The event generated more than $5,000 for the students, which they are planning to use to help pay for the school’s field trips and other needs throughout the year.

“Our PTO worked hard earlier in the year doing fundraisers throughout the summer including selling fireworks in order to allow us to be able to give all the profit from this event to the school and the students,” said Christine Bratton, president, Cobblestone PTO. “All the parents worked very hard and it was a very successful event for an organization that has only been around for the past two years.”

Brightly colored costumes were adorned by children and adults alike, who were getting ready for the upcoming Halloween festivities later this week.

“I love the event,” said Henriette Gaspar, who attended her second grade daughter Isabella. “I think this was even better than last year.”

Isabella liked "fishing" for candy and prizes.
