County offering day at the ballpark

With Little League season in full swing, the Yuba County Office of Recreation is looking to give parents and kids an opportunity for a little extra practice and a chance to play ball with the big boys.

The county will be hosting a "Parent & Me Hit the Tee" event on June 5 at Appeal-Democrat Park, home of the Marysville Gold Sox.

Gold Sox players will be on hand that day to help parents and little sluggers, ages 5 and under, discover the interactive game of baseball through instruction, skill-building exercises and some baseball 101 knowledge on the field.

The event will be held from 10 a.m to noon and is $25 per parent and child duo. The fee will cover a certificate of completion, T-shirt, game ticket for the Gold Sox and snack. The event is being sponsored by the Gold Sox, Yuba-Sutter United Way and First 5 Yuba.

The county recreation department is encouraging participants to register early as space will be limited.

For more information on the event or to register, please call Yuba County Recreation at 749-5670; e-mail cbalderama@co.yuba.ca.us or register in person at  the Yuba County Government Center, 915 8th St, Ste 123., Marysville. Registration will close June 1.
