Firework sales for new marquee

June 26, 2008 - 12:29PM

It's an annual event: right about the middle of June every year suddenly brightly colored stands begin appearing on street corners and in shopping centers. No one knows how they get there but one day the corner is empty and the next day a booth is standing there ready to be filled with the year's newest creations of fireworks.

For the teachers at Rio Del Oro, they know exactly how the stand appeared on the corner of River Oaks and Algadon - they requested it.

As part of its fundraising efforts, Rio's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will be hosting a Fourth of July fireworks stand to raise money  for their school.

The PTO is putting money raised from the booth toward the purchase of a new school marquee that will go in front of their school.

The stand will be open Saturday, June 28, to Thursday, July 3, from noon to 8 p.m. daily and will also be open on the Fourth of July from noon to 4 p.m. For every $20 customers spend they will receive a raffle ticket which will be raffled off at 4 p.m. on the Fourth of July for a free fireworks package.

In an effort to make it a true school fundraiser, Rio Del Oro teachers, staff and parents will be working the booth. Students are encouraged to come out and see their teachers.

Last year the PTO shared a stand with the Plumas Lake Youth Sports Association but decided to do its own booth this year in hopes of raising more money to go toward getting the school sign.
