Groups benefit from fireworks stand sales
What is the Fourth of July without the appearance of fireworks stands on street corners throughout the U.S.? Two local groups in particular hope they never have to find out; both the Plumas Lake Youth Sports Association and the Rio del Oro Parent Teacher Organization hosted fireworks stands in Plumas Lake this year.
Fireworks stands not only provide bright colors and sounds for the holiday, they serve a secondary purpose for those local non-profit groups looking for a fundraising outlet.
This was the first year that Plumas Lake residents had two booths to choose from; the organizations shared a booth in 2007. Both organizations said they were pleased with the results.
“Even though we sold more fireworks overall last year from our booth, I believe each group is actually coming out more ahead this year between the two,” said Lenny Masse, PLYSA board member.
And this is good news for the organizations that will use this money for local fundraising.
The PTO plans to match this money with other funds raised throughout the year to purchase a marquee for the front of the school, to alert parents and the public of school activities and important dates to remember.
The PLYSA will put the funds it raised into helping develop the sports fields at the new Eufay Woods Sr. Memorial Park, as well as for other youth sports programs for the entire community.
