Fireworks and fun on Fourth
Red, white and blue streamers, hats, flags and balloons could be seen winding down the streets of Plumas Lake during the inaugural Plumas Lake Fourth of July Children's Parade, with more than 50 kids, parents and families participating.
The event, one of many the Plumas Lake Mom's Group hosts throughout the year to foster community spirit, proved to be fun for both participants and spectators.
"This was so cute, I enjoyed seeing all the kids so decorated," said Jamie Baugh, a resident and parent. "I hope this is the first of many years we do this, it will just keep getting better."
The parade featured kids of all ages on a variety of bikes, good old-fashioned wagons and even battery-operated cars. Parents trailed in front of and behind the kids as they all waved their flags and demonstrated patriotic spirit.
The parade route, which wound around southern Plumas Lake, was just long enough to allow neighbors to enjoy but short enough for even the littlest ones participating to make it to the end.
The Yuba County Fire Department, which also tries to make appearances at all local Plumas Lake events as a sign of its support to the community, brought up the rear of the parade. Firefighters jumped down off their truck and handed out official "fireman" stickers to kids watching the parade go by.
