Jay Kwok of Plumas Lake displays the wide variety of pet supplies that he sells through his Web-based business www.VipPetSupplies.com.

Business aims to please man's best friend

While Plumas Lake is a wonderful community for many of man’s best friends due to the open space and large home lots, it can also be inconvenient for pet owners seeking quality food and supplies. With the nearest pet supply store in Yuba City, many owners find themselves having to make a concerted effort out of their way to purchase quality and specialty pet items.

But that's no longer an issue for residents as VIPPetSupplies.com opened in late June.

“I opened VIP because I noticed there was not a single pet supply store within a 15-mile radius from Plumas Lake, and pet owners have to pay a high price to receive quality pet food and supplies,” said Jay Kwok, owner and Plumas Lake resident.

The business allows clients to purchase pet supplies online, over the phone or by e-mail and they can expect a delivery to their door within one to two business days. Kwok said referral business is going strong.

VIP offers a variety of primarily dog and cat foods and products, including many high-end quality brands at a reasonable price, Kwok said.

“Even at an always low-priced chain superstore, pet owners can still purchase from us at an even lower price for a higher-quality product,” said Kwok.

And for those pet owners who are not certain what type of food or product is best, VIP can provide information including price per pound comparisons, quality comparisons, competitor’s price comparisons and a six-star rated scale on brands of food by a reputable third-party company not affiliated with them.

“Our customers can receive a fair and non-biasd product review to make a wise decision for their pet, save money and even on gas because VIP delivers your pet supplies to your home,” Kwok said

So what are their customer’s saying about them?

“I've ordered three times from VIP, and been very happy, both with the food and the service. I'd recommend them highly,” said Erin Hardey, Plumas Lake resident.

This is not anything new to Kwok. He already owns another Internet marketing service business. But that hasn’t stopped him from investing over $35,000 to get VIP off the ground. That type of investment is evident in the variety of products that Kwok offers. With well over 100 different products to choose from, customers have their choices of many different types of pet food and supplies including organic or holistic dog food, shock absorbing bike leashes, non-spill travel water bowls and hip and joint supplements.

His brands also vary and his food options include Taste of the Wild, Diamond Naturals, Breeders Choice, K9 and Eukanuba, among many others.

And while one of his biggest challenges has been letting everyone know the business exists in Plumas Lake, he is hopeful that his competitive pricing and his full service approach will bring customers in and keep them coming back.

“I hope that we can provide something for all pet owners in Plumas Lake in the future, if we don’t offer it now. I hope that we can grow to offer more varieties of products, so it better serves our customers,” said Kwok.
