Hearning date changed on postal facility's fate

To allow more public officials to attend, U.S. Postal Service officials have moved the date of a public hearing about the fate of an Olivehurst mail sorting facility to Dec. 16.

The hearing will be 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Friday Night Live Youth Center, 301 Fourth St., Marysville.

Postal officials changed the date to accommodate elected officials who oppose the move but would have been meeting elsewhere at the original hearing time on Tuesday.

Officials from Yuba and Sutter counties as well affected cities are expected to attend the hearing, which will center on whether the Olivehurst facility will be closed and the 170 jobs there will be transferred to a facility in West Sacramento. Critics of the move say it will cause signifcant delays in when Yuba-Sutter residents receive their mail.
