Walgreens celebrates one-year anniversary
The one staple that residents have come to know and love will be celebrating its one year anniversary Saturday.
The Walgreens on River Oaks Boulevard opened its doors a year ago to a swelling crowd and continues to be the one and only quick-stop location for the Plumas Lake community within a few miles of home.
“We have enjoyed our first year here,” said store manager Shane Gibbs. “We try to provide all the items that residents are looking for near home.”
Over the past year, the store has made modifications in order to cater more to the rural community it serves. Changes over the past year have included introducing a few fresh fruits and vegetables and more foods for people just needing to pick up a gallon of milk or a dozen eggs.
These are changes that Gibbs hopes continue as the store is still looking for ways to better serve its customers. In the next few weeks residents can be on the lookout for a Red Box to appear in the store allowing customers to rent movies right in their own backyard.
Additionally, Gibbs is asking that folks wanting to have that local morning spot to grab a cup of Joe to contact Walgreens corporate offices 1-800-925-4733 and ask for this service as he and local management have been working hard to get this early-morning convenience available.
As for the celebration of the store itself, as Walgreens employees have done for the past year, they intend to celebrate this milestone with those they consider their family – the local community that supports their business.
The store staff encourage everyone to come out Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help them celebrate with food and activities.
Partnering with Relay for Life, a subsidiary of the American Cancer Society, Walgreens will be providing activities such as a bean bag toss, a dunk tank, ring toss, photo booth and grab bags. The store will also have hot dogs, nachos, snow cones, root beer floats and deep fried Twinkies for sale. All items will be $1.00 with all proceeds going to Relay for Life. Walgreens will also be giving away free celebratory cake.
“We hope everyone will come out and help us celebrate,” said Gibbs.
