Rio del Oro celebrates 'Robin Day'
Every year students, parents and administrators take a week out of the school year to celebrate those individuals that guide and educate - the teachers.
But this year when Teacher Appreciation Week rolled around, one school took their celebration to the next level.
Rio del Oro Elementary students, parents and teachers held their first ever "Robin Day" not in recognition for a teacher but for their front office assistant that does so much for everyone, teachers included.
"During this week we make sure to celebrate the teachers but there are other people at our school that don't always get recognized and they are a huge asset," said Mandi Rubey, parent and Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) member.
Robin Harland is the person most parents and students see first when coming to Rio and she hasn't taken her job lightly. She greets most everyone by their first name and exudes the highest friendliness when answering their questions or quelling their concerns.
The "Robin Day" festivities encompassed the entire day and started the moment she pulled up to the school. A large sign read "We Love You Robin!" and the front office had been fully decorated in purple, Robin's favorite color. In addition, the school ensured Robin didn't go hungry by with an edible fruit bouquet delivered to her in the morning and lunch presented to her at the noon hour.
As a commemorative of the event, each classroom created a scrapbook page on why they appreciated her which was presented to Robin to take home.
The day ended with the entire school making its way to the quad to sing a song created just for Robin titled "We Love You Robin!"
"Robin just goes above and beyond," continued Mandi. "She is the heart of this school and she deserved this recognition."
