Supervisors OK alcohol sales at Walgreens

On a 5-0 vote, the Yuba County Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday to back extending a permit to sell alcohol to the Walgreens store on River Oaks Boulevard, in Plumas Lake.

A county planner noted the Walgreens wants to sell beer and wine — not hard alcohol — but supervisors had to declare a public necessity or convenience for the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to allow it.

After the unanimous approval, an attorney working with Walgreens told supervisors getting libations on the shelves and in coolers at the story should take a couple months. Area residents now have to drive to the Tower Mart in Olivehurst or farther to purchase such items.
