Briefs: 5 arrested in Olivehurst beating, robbery

Three men and two women were arrested early Saturday in Olivehurst, accused of luring two men off scooters they had been riding, and then beating and robbing them.

Israil Quintana, 24, of Olivehurst, Jaime Garcia Ferreyra, aka "PeeWee" and "Lil' One," 22, of Olivehurst, Conception Alvizar, 18, of Yuba City, and Luis Miguel Aldana, 24, of Olivehurst, were arrested and charged with gang affiliation, robbery and battery. Another suspect is a juvenile and details of her arrest are not available.

The victims reported to sheriff's officers that they had been riding their scooters when someone called to them from out of the shadows in front of a home in the 1600 block of Seventh Avenue.

Thinking they knew the person calling, they approached the home and were jumped by its occupants.

One victim was taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital with a possible broken nose, according to Yuba County Sheriff's Deparment spokesman Lt. Damon Gil. The attackers used brass knuckles, "and possibly one of the scooters," to beat the two men, he said.

The four adult suspects were booked into Yuba County Jail.

Repairs done on 10th Street Bridge

The California Department of Transportation has completed emergency repairs on the 10th Street Bridge over the Feather River between Yuba City and Marysville.

The seven-month $12 million project, begun in June, strengthened two of the 23 piers supporting the 64-year-old bridge and added new erosion protection to three other piers.

In March, Caltrans bridge engineers had found that high water flows over the past 19 years had caused erosion to one of the bridge's pier footings.
