Police: Man tosses backpack with sawed-off shotgun inside
Yuba City man facing several charges
A Yuba City man will be arraigned in Sutter County Superior Court today on a variety of charges, including ones related to throwing a backpack containing a sawed-off shotgun into a backyard where children were playing while he was running from the police.
Will Patrick Wright, 28, is being held at Sutter County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon that was not a firearm, making criminal threats, being part of a criminal street gang, being a felon in possession of firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and resisting an officer.
Yuba City Police Department spokeswoman Shawna Pavey said the department received a report Friday of a man the caller identified as Wright brandishing a sawed-off shotgun in the direction of an acquaintance. When officers found Wright on Friday evening, he fled on foot and at one point threw a backpack into a backyard.
Officers eventually caught and arrested him on the 200 block of Fairman Street at about 6:30 p.m., and later discovered the shotgun in the backpack.
No one was hurt in the incident, according to the YCPD.
