Father, daughter injured in motorcycle crash

A motorcycle crash sent an Olivehurst man and his daughter to the hospital Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Christopher DeVaughn, 35, and his 12-year-old daughter from Yuba City, were ejected from a 2004 Ducati motorcycle around 2:40 p.m. while riding on Highway 99, south of Eager Road in Sutter County, investigators said.

Both suffered unspecified “moderate” injuries and were taken to Rideout Regional Medical Center in Marysville. DeVaughn was listed in fair condition Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The daughter’s condition was not available.

DeVaughn was traveling north, approaching Eager Road, at high speeds when he slowed to watch a CHP vehicle conducting a traffic stop. The CHP said the abrupt braking at high speed caused DeVaughn to lose control of the bike, throwing both riders. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors, but the CHP said the investigation continues.
