Brother drove pickup that killed child in Linda
A teenager accidentally ran over and killed his 3-year-old brother in Linda on his way out of the family's driveway in his pickup truck Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The child had been playing in the parking lot in front of the house in the 6000 block of Alpine Way where he lived with his mother and sister.
At about 2:15 p.m., the 19-year-old, who had been speaking to his mother through the window of his 1989 Ford pickup truck, finished the conversation and began to exit the parking lot, the CHP said.
As soon as he started moving his truck, he told police, he felt an impact at the rear of the truck.
No family members have been identified.
Kai Her, a neighbor in the nearby Frontier Apartments on Shasta Court, looked out of his window when he heard a commotion.
"The mother was holding the boy and crying," he said. "The little boy always plays with his sister in the driveway."
Police blocked traffic from entering Alpine Way from North Beale Road for a short time after the accident, he said.
The boy was taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital and died of his injuries.
