Marysville Elks offer post-Christmas meal
Everybody loves leftovers.
The Elks Lodge treated 135 people to a post-Christmas dinner on Thursday at its Marysville headquarters.
Erika Friend of Marysville and her mother, Toni, sat and visited with fellow feasters.
"There's a couple people that I know that show up here and I like to say, 'hi' to them," said Friend. "They let me know about other places for free food and clothing."
Elks Lodge member A.J. Hall resurrected the free post-Christmas meal after a 10-year hiatus thanks to some leftover turkey coupons from California Water Service.
Hall, a 42-year veteran of the service club, went to the Rescue Mission, The Salvation Army Depot Family Crisis Center, the former Hollywood Mobile Home Park and the Riverbottoms Church in Yuba City looking for people to feed.
"I can't say enough about the volunteers," said Hall.
A group of Marysville High School football team members helped dish up dinners.
"They want to give; they have big hearts," assistant coach Scott Barton said.
