Yuba City police release 'person of interest' photo in Big 5 robbery

Police investigators on Thursday released a photograph of a second man possibly connected to the weekend robbery of Big 5 Sporting Goods in Yuba City.

Lt. Tom Tappe said the man in the surveillance video is not the prime suspect and only considered "a person of interest."

"At this point, we'd just like to speak with him," Tappe said.

Another man, whose image was not released, brandished a knife at a store employee about 6:50 p.m. Saturday and stole two backpacks, police said.

The employee confronted the man as he was leaving, but the thief pulled the knife, held it against his own face and continued walking out the store. Police said the robber did not speak during the incident.

He was last seen heading west toward the Payless shoe store on Colusa Avenue.

Police described the thief as a bearded white man with a "large stomach," about 6-foot and 230 to 250 pounds. He wore a dark, hooded camouflage jacket, a baseball-style cap, a blue shirt and jeans, police said.
