Olivehurst man arrested for felony DUI after crash
An Olivehurst man was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving after a late-night crash Thursday on Highway 20 at the north end of Williams.
Willard Eugene Crain Jr., 45, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol at 11:34 p.m., west of Walnut Drive, after the crash that sent an unidentified 29-year-old female passenger to Enloe Medical Center in Chico, according to a CHP report.
The report said the passenger suffered major injuries.
"Crain showed signs of alcoholic beverage intoxication and he admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to the collision," according to the report filed by Officer Martin Oliveros.
"He refused all field sobriety tests and was arrested."
According to the report, Crain was driving a 1978 Pontiac Firebird about 70 mph east on Highway 20 and allowed the car to drift into the right shoulder.
Crain reportedly pulled the car back onto the highway but overcorrected the steering, sending the Firebird across the west lane, across the north shoulder, through a fence and into an embankment, the CHP report said.
Crain sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Colusa Regional Medical Center before being booked into the Colusa County Jail at 3:25 a.m. Friday.
He was charged with driving under the influence and causing an accident resulting in death or bodily injury. Bail was set at $40,000.
