Rafters come up short in championship

For the second time this year the Plumas Lake Rafters co-ed softball team advanced to the league championships, but this time the squad came up short.

Earlier this year the team of adult men and women managed to snag the title in Yuba City's adult softball league.

Unfortunately, the Rafters weren't able to take home a second championship trophy in the fall season, falling to a team from Live Oak by a 16-4 score. The team does, however, plan to stick together and play next season.

"We played well, but just couldn't keep up with the bats of the other team. Their hitting was amazing," said Cynthia Braxton, Rafters player and coach. Braxton praised the "wonderful bunch of people" who came out to play.

The team, which is one of two Plumas Lake Rafter softball teams, was assembled last fall, through www.plumaslakelife.com., the Web site dedicated to the community and activities of Plumas Lake.

Individuals interested in signing up for the men's or co-ed teams in the spring can contact Braxton at cynthia.braxton@yahoo.com.
