Flag football gives kids something to cheer about
This year marked the first time kids from the Plumas Lake area had an opportunity to play flag football within their community.
The Plumas Lake Youth Sports Association created a league that invited kids from ages 4 to 14 to participate.
The league, which held games Saturdays from mid-August to mid-November, gave many of the players their first opportunity to be involved in a team sport.
Since no football game is complete without cheerleaders, the PLYSA cheerleading squads cheered the teams and practiced their latest routines.
“The football league gave kids an opportunity to learn the game and something to cheer about,” said coach Jason Martin.
An end-of-the-season party celebrated the players’ achievements.
Partnering with the PLYSA cheerleading squads, the organization recognized teams’ efforts and handed out trophies during the November event at Packard Library in Marysville.
The league hopes to continue offering flag football next year as an alternative to traditional football.
While parents will have to wait another year to enjoy watching their children play football, the cheerleaders’ parents may be just beginning in their adventure; the PLYSA will be offering the opportunity to participate in a competitive cheerleading squad.
