Plumas Lake all-stars shine
An opportunity to meet new players, hone their skills and play in a new environment was exactly what kids from the area got this past month. Several Plumas Lake kids were chosen to participate in an All-Star team in the local South Sutter Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken league.
"This league gives the kids a little different flavor," said Ed Henderson, league coordinator.
The three teams consisted of an under-10 boys team, one under-10 girls team and one under-12 girls team. The teams were made up of the best players in the league and gave them a chance to play against other teams throughout the region also made up of the best players in their respective leagues.
While the boys team didn't make it to the state competition, just the opportunity for them to travel and see other players was something many of them had not been able to be part of in the past.
"It is good for the team to get out and see there are other players of a different caliber out there," Henderson said.
The boys' team was eliminated in the first round of competition.
The two girls teams fared somewhere better: both advanced to the second round of play before losing.
"Regardless of the outcome, the teams had a lot of fun," Henderson said.
With the season now concluded for the year, the league looks toward next year. The league is losing a few board members this year and while some positions already have been filled, a couple open spots on the board will remain open come fall.
The league invites any community member interested in helping out to come to any upcoming board meeting. In addition, the league also is looking for a "Fall Ball Player Agent" to run this year's fall ball program.
