Batter up: League sign-ups under way
That time of year is quickly approaching and young players are awaiting the first practice and games of their Little League careers.
For kids interested in playing either baseball or softball, there are three options available to those living in the Plumas Lake region. All three leagues are currently holding sign-ups and are encouraging parents to sign up their children sooner rather than later. Below is information on all three leagues as well as how to register your little players.
Plumas Lake Youth Sports Association – Offers tee ball to children 5 years and younger. This is an instructional league that teaches players the basics of the game. Practices are held one night per week, and the day will vary according to the coaches’ schedule. Practices will be held at Rio del Oro Elementary, Eufay Woods Park or the Plumas Charter School. Games will be held Saturday mornings at the Plumas Charter School. Practices for the 2010 season will start the last week of March. Regular registration is $55.00, fees include a hat, a T-shirt and an award. To register visit the league Web site at www.plysa.org.
South Sutter Baseball and Softball – Offers baseball and softball to children 5 years and older. They are affiliated with Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken league, which allows the league to determine their own boundaries that has included Plumas Lake for the past two years. They play the majority of their games on the home Nicolaus fields with some games being played on the fields at the parks in Plumas Lake. Practices are held at the area schools fields. Registration fees are $60 per player and not to exceed $120 per family. To register visit the league Web site at www.southsutterbaseball.net.
Wheatland South Sutter Little League – Offers baseball to children 5 years and older. They are affiliated with the national Little League organization. The boundaries for the Little League organization have been redrawn and now include south Plumas Lake. They practice and play their games in Wheatland. Players who last played in the Olivehurst-Linda Little League division and live in south Plumas Lake (south of Plumas Arboga Road) have the option to either stay in Olivehurst or to join other new Plumas Lake players in Wheatland. Registration fees are $75 per player and not to exceed $200 for families of three or more siblings. To register visit Primetime Pizza in Wheatland at one of the following dates and times: Jan. 30 and Feb. 6 from 12 to 2 p.m. and Feb. 12 and Feb. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. You will be required to present the players “actual” birth certificate and three proofs of residency.
