Rafters take home championship

September 26, 2007 - 7:28PM

Even a slow start to the season couldn’t stop the Plumas Lake Rafters from taking home their fi rst championship trophy this summer as part of the Yuba City Adult Softball Summer League.

The team was assembled last fall, through www.plumaslakelife.com., the Web site dedicated to the community and activities of Plumas Lake.

The team became a place for community members to make contact with many members meeting each other for the first time at their first practice, the day before their first game.

The Rafters started out a bit shaky, losing seven games in a row with one defeat in which the final score was 46-3 after three

innings. But the team came together and steadily improved.

“The guys really stuck it out, through good and bad, and it finally paid off,” said Rafters’ player Craig Bommarito. “We are going to continue the team next year by picking it right back up during the spring.”

The team decided to hold off playing this fall and is now working with the Plumas Lake Youth Sports Association, which has expanded to create a new division for adult recreation opportunities.

The 2008 league will be a Plumas Lake area league, and games will be played in Plumas Lake as well as in East Nicolaus. The team is continuing to look for interested players to join.

“Please don’t be hesitant to play. This is a great way to meet new friends, and have fun with old ones,” Bommarito said. “This

league is all about fun within our own community.”
